Information
Lucerne is a city in central Switzerland, in the German speaking part of the country. It is the capital of the homonymous canton and one of the most populous cities in central Switzerland with a population of about 81,057. Owing to its location on the shores of lake Lucerne and the sight of the mountains Pilatus and Rigi, in the Swiss Alps, Lucerne has been a famous destination for tourists. One of the city’s landmarks is the Chapel Bridge, a wooden bridge first erected in the 14th century. The city is also known for its high quality of life, alike the most big cities of Switzerland.

What To See...
Chapel Bridge
This beautiful wooden bridge is the landmark of Lucerne. The bridge is centraly located and connects the old city of Lucerne with the new one. Inside the bridge you will find some impressive paintings from the 17th century and also from here you can admire some of the most beautiful views of the city! This is the number one sight of Lucerne that you should definitely visit.
Lucerne Old Town
The old town is by far the most interesting part of this city and surely deserves a visit. Beautiful buildings, with colourful paintings on the walls and a delightful atmosphere, are some of the things you should expect when you visit Lucerne’s old town. Get lost in the alleys for a few hours and you will surely love this city even more.
Museggmauer
The old city wall of Lucerne with the nine towers, offering great views of the city from the top. This is the perfect place for a romantic peaceful walk especially during fall or winter. Three of the towers are visitable and offers some great panoramic views of the city at no cost.
Lion Monument
Lucerne’s lion is a monument carved on a rock and symbolizes the fallen swiss soldiers who were sacrificed during the french revolution. This monument is one of Lucerne’s most popular tourist attractions and is always full of tourists during most times of the day.
Dreilindenpark
This is a wonderful park with amazing views over the lake and the mountains. The small castle inside the park gives you the impression of a fairytale place especially during winter. Dreilindenpark is the ideal place if you want to relax and enjoy some great views over the city of Lucerne.

Lucerne is located in the center of Switzerland, in an excellent geographical location, that is ideal for nearby excursions. Around Lucerne, at a distance of one hour or less, there are some amazing places like the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Grindelwald, Zürich, Bern and many more that we have extensively mentioned on our page. Even if you do not have a car, you can easily take the train to visit all of the above places, as the means of transport in Switzerland are excellent. If we had to choose just one place of the above, then this is definitely the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
What To Eat
In Lucerne you have plenty of choices if you want to eat outside, as there are several good restaurants that worth visiting. One of these is the extraordinary Fondue House, where you can try the city’s tastiest Fondue in various combinations. The restaurant is located in the old town of Lucerne in a very beautiful, central spot and you will not have any difficulty finding it. The prices are very high, as for a classic Cheese Fondue for two persons you have to pay around 70 Swiss francs.
How to move
In Lucerne, as in every city in Switzerland, there is absolute orderliness and security for the traveler, who can explore the city in many ways without any problem. You can walk easily on foot, as the distances are not long and you can see the main attractions that we mentioned above in just a few hours. If you want to use the means of transport for a little longer distances, then the bus and the train are the best options.
The nearest airport to Lucerne is Zürich airport. It is a 60 minutes journey by car (65 km) and from Zürich’s main station (Zürich HB) it is about a 45 minute trip, by train and it costs 14 swiss francs per person one way.
Where to stay
Lucerne is an expensive city and your choices to stay in a budget room in the center are very limited. Prices range from 100-150 swiss francs for one night in a decent double room.
