Nearby Excursions
Würzburg is located in an excellent location in Germany where you have an unlimited choices for one day excursions or if you want to combine a few days away from the city. As we said above, the city of Würzburg is the beginning of one of the most beautiful roadtrips across Germany but it would be better to spend much more time to see the wonderful villages during this epic journey and finally reach the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein! We will talk extensively about this unbelievable region of Germany with more details in another trip.
The most beautiful short day trip you can take if you are in Würzburg is that of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which is famous for its well preserved medieval old town and attracting tourists from all over the world. It is part of the popular Romantic Road that crosses southern Germany and one of the most beautiful villages in the whole country. Rothenburg is only 45 minutes (60 km) by car from Würzburg and is the perfect choice for a one day excursion.
What To Eat
German cuisine is one our favorite as well as many people who love meat, potatoes and vegetables. In Würzburg, you will find many good restaurants serving authentic German dishes but in case you want a short break from meat, then we have an excellent suggestion for you.
The Italian restaurant Locanda, where you will find incredible pizzas and pasta! It is famous for its huge portions and the very tasty food it serves. It’s a hangout for many locals and especially for youth, so if you are planning to visit it, make sure you made a reservation because the wait is very long, especially on weekends…
How to move
Würzburg is a relatively small town and you can easily explore it simply on foot. The city’s main attractions are gathered around the river but it may be difficult for you to climb the castle because it’s quite uphill.
Frankfurt Airport is about 1:15 minutes (124 km) away from the city of Würzburg and is easily accessible by car, bus or train directly. The bus price is 16 euros per person and the train price is 20 euros per person for one route.
