The beautiful village of Lermoos is located in Tyrol, Austria, where you can admire the Alps and the highest mountain in Germany, Zugspitze. Lermoos is now a popular holiday destination and is considered a paradise for hiking and mountain biking. The area offers many more family friendly activities, because it has fully equipped hotels, restaurants and shops that host and serve visitors all year round.
What To See...
Zugspitze
The spectacular highest mountain of Germany is an attractive destination for skiers and romantic travelers. Zugspitze is 2,962 meters high and can be reached within 10 minutes with of one of the most modern cable cars. The route to the summit is simply amazing so we would recommend paying attention to weather, as the clouds may not allow you to admire the endless views of the Alps. Your can see peaks of Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland, and this experience will be surely once in a lifetime. Apart from the magnificent views, at the top you will find a museum, as well as a wonderful restaurant with breathtaking views. The ticket to the top of Zugspitze costs 46.50 euros per person, but you will find different rates depending on age and family members.
Tuftl Alm Panorama
Here you will have a chance to enjoy an incredible panoramic view of Lermoos. A short one hour and half hike will take you to one the most beautiful views of the valley and the enormous Zugspitze. Don’t forget your camera, as it is a great opportunity for impressive shots.
St. Katharina Church
The magnificent church of St. Catherine is an example of the 18th century baroque architecture. If you visit the church you will surely be impressed with the realistic paintings of the roof but also by the oldest belfry in Tyrol, which has been rescued by the two world wars.
Grubigstein
Grubigstein is a popular mountain for those who enjoy extreme sports, such as paragliding and skiing. It has an altitude of 2,250 meters and the view of the Lermoos valley is very beautiful.
Nearby Excursions
Lermoos is located near the Bavarian Alps. Within less than an hour drive you can visit fairytale places in Bavaria such as lake Eibsee, the town of Garmisch Partenkirchen, Grainau and Schwangau with its beautiful castles and much more. Whether by car or by other means such as a train or a bus, you will find these trips enjoyable and easy.
What To Eat
The ultimate enjoyment is complemented by delicious food. So we recommend you to eat a traditional schnitzel at Lermoos’s Bauernstube restaurant. The portions are very large and very tasty. You will find traditional dishes and a wide selection of beers to accompany your meal. The service is impeccable and the prices are excellent.
How to move
Lermoos has long roads and bike lanes. There are many private bus companies which you can use to get there, as well as a train line that serves the daily many people. We used our car as it gave us the flexibility to visit everything we want at short or long distances from the village.
Where to stay
The village has a variety of hotels and campings as there is tourism all year round. A cheap option is to stay at a campsite that has either regular hotel rooms with shared bathrooms or inside a caravan. The cost for such a stay starts from 25-30 euros and of course increases depending on the hotel facilities. You can make your reservations via Booking.com
